China opens visa-free entry to Canadian and British nationals
Starting February 17, 2026, China will allow Canadian and British citizens to enter the country visa-free for up to 30 days. This visa exemption applies to travel for business, tourism, visiting family and friends, exchanges, and transit, and will be implemented on a trial basis until December 31, 2026. This development is significant for facilitating international travel and strengthening bilateral relations.

The decision follows agreements reached during visits by Canadian and British leaders to China. As a result, U.S. citizens remain the only members of the Five Eyes alliance still required to obtain a visa to enter China. Currently, nationals from 79 countries, including Russia, enjoy visa-free access to China.
This move is expected to boost tourism and business exchanges and promote closer integration of Canada and the UK with the Chinese market in the coming months.
