Chinese state media, ahead of a summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Washington, stressed the need for stable relations between the two countries. The leaders’ meeting is due to take place on Thursday.
Strategic stability
As South China Morning Post reports, the front page of People’s Daily published an article stating that the leaders should provide strategic guidance for the development of stable relations between the two states.

The publication, which is the main newspaper of the Communist Party of China, called on the sides to develop constructive strategic stability. According to the newspaper, this approach was discussed during Trump’s visit to Beijing four months ago.
Beijing’s position
The Chinese government and state media also outlined Beijing’s red lines several days before the talks in Washington. People’s Daily positively assessed the state of bilateral contacts after the previous meeting between Xi Jinping and Trump, stating that the number of positive factors in China-US interaction continues to grow.
