North Korea says new sanctions will not halt its development — Daily Maverick
North Korea said it would not tolerate attempts to restrict Pyongyang’s cooperation with other countries, and that new sanctions would not be able to hinder the state’s development or the protection of its key interests. The state-run KCNA agency reported this, citing a spokesperson for North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Accusations against MSMT
As Daily Maverick reports, the North Korean side accused the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT) of fabricating a report. North Korea said the document was intended to portray as illegal the economic cooperation that Pyongyang calls normal and mutually beneficial.

Assessments of workers abroad
The MSMT report, released on September 16, stated that North Korea continued to send workers abroad in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. The group estimated that this generated between $450 million and $800 million in 2025 to finance the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
MSMT also estimated that between 35,600 and 101,280 North Korean workers remain active in at least 17 countries, primarily in China and Russia. The group called on states to immediately implement UN resolutions, repatriate North Korean workers, and not issue new work permits. MSMT member states are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
