North Korea on Sunday, September 20, launched an object, believed to have been a ballistic missile, into the sea east of the Korean Peninsula. This was stated by Japan’s Ministry of Defense, Cyprus Mail reports.

South Korea’s Ministry of Defense reported that North Korea had launched an unidentified projectile. Japanese public broadcaster NHK, in turn, reported that the object fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

A day earlier, North Korea rejected through state media a resolution by the UN nuclear watchdog concerning Pyongyang’s nuclear programme.
Military exercises near Guam
Last week, North Korea also condemned US-led naval exercises involving South Korea and Japan. The drills lasted from August 29 to September 10 near Guam. On Friday, Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of leader Kim Jong Un, blamed the US-led exercises for the “increasingly worsening” tensions on the Korean Peninsula and stated that the country would not change its course of strengthening its nuclear arsenal.
