UNHCR allocates $2 million for aid in Yemen — Anadolu Agency
UNHCR has allocated $2 million in emergency funding for humanitarian needs arising from the latest military escalation in Yemen. UNHCR Representative in Yemen Armen Edigarian announced this during a meeting with Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammed al-Faqih in the temporary capital, Aden, Anadolu Agency reports.
Assistance for displaced people
According to the official Saba agency, the meeting’s participants discussed strengthening coordination to meet the humanitarian needs of people displaced by the recent fighting. Edigarian also said that preparations were underway for the arrival of a new batch of aid to provide shelter.
The UNHCR representative confirmed the continuation of coordination with the Yemeni government and UN agencies operating in the country. This is intended to strengthen the humanitarian response for displaced people and provide them with the necessary assistance.

Scale of displacement and fighting
On Saturday, the government’s Executive Unit for the Management of Camps for Displaced Persons reported that about 147,000 people had moved to eight provinces from the beginning of September through September 18 due to the latest military escalation.
Fighting resumed on several fronts between government forces and Houthi fighters, including in Taiz, Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Bayda and Lahj. The current developments are part of a broader military escalation that began in early July and became the most intense after years of relative calm following the truce in April 2022.
According to Anadolu Agency, fighting intensified in September, and the Houthis captured key locations in Al-Hudaydah and Taiz, including the strategic city of Mocha and Perim Island, which divides the Bab el-Mandeb Strait into two channels.
