Cyprus president does not rule out progress in UN talks — Cyprus Mail
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, in New York, United States, did not rule out “important progress” on the resumption of UN-sponsored talks to resolve the Cyprus issue. Cyprus Mail reports.
He spoke on Sunday evening at a meeting with members of the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations. According to Christodoulides, the Cyprus issue will dominate his week of meetings during the UN General Assembly. The president also said that he would assess the results of the week on Friday evening, although, he said, there is an opinion in Cyprus that it may not bring significant results.
US investments
Christodoulides said that “very important announcements” on new investments by major American companies are expected soon. He recalled that he visited the United States in 2025 to help increase US investment in Cyprus.

At the end of November, the president plans to visit the United States again to take part in a Financial Times conference in New York dedicated to Cyprus. He also intends to hold meetings with companies in other states that are interested in investing in Cyprus.
Assessment of the economy and migration
According to Christodoulides, over the past three and a half years, Cyprus has achieved results in foreign policy and has once again become known in the United States for positive reasons. Among the factors, he named the country’s regional initiatives, Cyprus’ presidency of the EU in the first half of 2026, and an A-category rating from Standard & Poor’s, received for the first time since 2011.
The president also said that Cyprus’ public debt had fallen from about 80% of GDP to 48% of GDP and continues to decline, while the unemployment rate is about 3.6–3.7%. Separately, he reported a reduction in the number of migrant arrivals by more than 90% and an increase in returns by more than 85%.
