NACOC finds no evidence of presidential guards among suspects — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) said preliminary checks found no evidence that the suspects held by the commission in the case involving the seizure in France of cocaine worth €225 million included a presidential guard. MyJoyOnline reports.
MP's statement
The clarification from NACOC came after a statement by Vincent Ekow Assafuah, a member of parliament for New Tafo. He claimed that one of the suspects, Musah Atta, allegedly served in the security detail of President John Dramani Mahama and the vice president.
In a Facebook post on September 18, the MP questioned how a person who could have been connected to the presidential security detail could feature in a cocaine trafficking case of such scale.

NACOC's position
Alexander Twum-Barima, NACOC's deputy director-general, said on TV3 in Accra on September 20 that the commission had checked the details of all suspects in its custody. According to him, the checks did not establish that any of them was a presidential guard.
Twum-Barima added that NACOC could not independently confirm Assafuah's claims without additional information about Musah Atta's possible role in the security system. He also denied that one officer could simultaneously be a close guard to the president and vice president, as separate teams are provided for each of them.
The report also mentions that French customs seized nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine from a container sent from Ghana.
