China launches first cross-sea suburban railway — ECNS
On September 22, the Ningbo-Xiangshan railway line began operating in China’s Zhejiang Province. It is the country’s first suburban railway with a sea crossing. ECNS reported the launch of the service.
Route between Ningbo and Xiangshan
The 61.45-kilometer line connects Xiaoyangjiang Station in Ningbo’s Yinzhou District with Damuwan Station in Xiangshan County. There are 10 stations along the route.
Four-car Type A suburban trains operate on the line. They can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

Connection via a bridge
The route runs across a bridge over Xiangshan Bay. With the opening of the line, rail transport has appeared on the Xiangshan Peninsula for the first time.
The railway creates a fast connection between central Ningbo and Xiangshan and is expected to provide half-hour transport accessibility between these areas. According to officials, the project is also intended to promote coordinated development in the southern part of Ningbo.
