Former SIF Deputy CEO Mohl announces bid for NPP primaries in Nandom

Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) Alois K. K. Mohl has announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Nandom constituency. According to MyJoyOnline, he declared his candidacy before party officials, traditional leaders and delegates at Chalice Hall in Nandom.

Call for party unity

Mohl linked his decision to an intention to restore NPP unity and return the parliamentary seat in Nandom to the party. According to him, internal factionalism was one of the factors behind the party losing the seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said that to regain the mandate, the party must first unite. In Mohl's view, the reconciliation process should be led by a person able to put the party's interests above personal interests.

Proposed programme

Mohl presented a programme in four areas: education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection. He also proposed a separate support programme for leaders of party structures at polling stations and in the constituency.

Under his plan, party officials who spend more than three days in hospital will be able to receive direct financial assistance. He also promised support with tuition payments for party members pursuing higher education and facing financial difficulties.

Other initiatives include creating a rapid-response team to visit polling stations and settle local disputes before they escalate during elections. Mohl also said that while working at SIF, he facilitated the construction of a six-classroom block and an electrical workshop at Nandom Technical Institute, and since 2019 has provided annual holiday assistance to polling-station workers.

Following Mohl's announcement, the number of contenders for the NPP nomination in Nandom reached four. In the primaries, he will compete against former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, DKM Microfinance Company Chief Executive Officer Martin Delle and lawyer Sylvester Isaing.
