Colombia lifts general suspension of gun-carry permits

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella signed a decree lifting the general suspension of permits to carry firearms. At the same time, he said that strict requirements and oversight by competent authorities will continue to apply to obtaining such permits.

Conditions for carrying weapons

The president announced the decision on the social media platform X. He stated that the general suspension of permits restricted law-abiding citizens, while criminals continued to arm themselves illegally. De la Espriella stressed that the decree does not mean permission to carry weapons without control.

As Anadolu Agency reports, the president said the government will focus on confiscating illegal weapons from criminal groups while guaranteeing the rights of citizens who comply with the law. According to him, people who illegally carry weapons will feel the full force of the law and the state.
