In Switzerland, a tour bus crashed into a fence; there are fatalities and 40 injured
A fatal tourist bus accident occurred in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Five people were killed in the accident, and another 40 sustained injuries of varying severity.
The accident occurred on Thursday on a stretch of road between the towns of Zernetz and Susch, where roadwork was underway at the time of the crash.
The bus belonged to the Dutch tour company Oad. According to preliminary reports, it veered off the road and collided with a guardrail.
Local police believe that most, if not all, of the bus passengers were Dutch citizens.
Five people were killed in the accident. Their identities are currently being determined.
According to the Graubünden cantonal police, among the survivors, 40 adults sustained injuries of varying severity.
Specifically:
- three people suffered serious injuries;
- seven sustained moderate injuries;
- 30 people sustained minor injuries.
Significant emergency response resources were deployed to rescue and evacuate the victims.
The victims were transported to various hospitals by seven rescue helicopters from Rega, Alpine Air Ambulance, and Heli Austria.
Thirteen emergency medical teams were also on the scene.
The police are currently investigating the causes of the fatal traffic accident and all the circumstances surrounding it.

As a reminder, police at the British bases in Cyprus have appealed to witnesses of the fatal traffic accident on the Limassol–Paphos highway near the Episkopi Tunnel for assistance. Demetris Potamitis, 76, was killed in the accident last Wednesday.
