Cyprus Computer Society submits 33 recommendations for AI strategy
The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) has submitted 33 recommendations to strengthen Cyprus’ National Artificial Intelligence Strategy through 2032. The organization called for a focus on the practical implementation of the strategy and measurable outcomes for citizens, businesses, public administration and the economy, Cyprus Mail reports.
CCS welcomed the publication of the document as an important step toward a coordinated national approach to artificial intelligence. The society also thanked Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides and members of the National AI Task Force for their work on the strategy. The organization said it was ready to contribute to its implementation through its representatives in the bodies, institutions and committees to be established under the strategy.
Funding planning and accountability
Among CCS’s key proposals is a single costed national plan for implementing the AI strategy. According to the society’s position, it should define the required investments, funding sources, implementation timelines and spending on key programmes.
The organization also called for clearer accountability within the proposed AI governance system. In particular, it raised questions about who would be responsible for implementing the strategy, monitoring the budget, responding when projects fail to deliver expected results, and being held accountable for failing to achieve national goals.

CCS proposes breaking down the strategy’s target of training around 3,000 artificial intelligence specialists by competency categories. In the organization’s view, Cyprus should assess not only the number of people trained, but also the availability of researchers, AI engineers, data specialists, applied AI specialists and personnel for specific sectors.
Business support and new technologies
CCS proposed using public procurement to stimulate innovation in artificial intelligence. In the society’s view, the government could become the first customer for Cypriot startups and small and medium-sized enterprises. CCS believes this would help companies attract clients, test their solutions and develop products for international markets.
The organization proposes assessing the strategy’s economic impact not only by the number of unicorn companies created. Other indicators it named include AI-related exports, revenue, intellectual property created in Cyprus, private investment, high-productivity employment and the commercialisation of research.
CCS separately emphasized the need for a national governance system for generative AI and AI agents. It should cover the use of large language models in the public sector, confidential information, the actions of AI agents, model reliability, copyright, synthetic content, deepfakes and human oversight. The recommendations also concern the assessment of algorithmic bias, the accessibility of AI services for citizens, and the inclusion of women and underrepresented groups in training programmes.
