Koretsky Stressed the Need for the Government and Parliament to Work in Unison to Move Toward the EU

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi stated during a meeting of ambassadors in Kyiv on August 3 that Ukraine’s progress toward European Union membership requires the government and parliament to work in a synchronized and coordinated manner.

According to the head of government, his strategic priority is to move Ukraine toward EU membership as quickly as possible. Koretsky emphasized that the government will continue the work begun by previous administrations. “We will continue what was started by previous governments, because a lot has been done; we will take the best of it and build on it,” he said.

The prime minister noted that implementing the European integration agenda is impossible without close cooperation between the government and parliament. He stated that without such coordination, there will not be a sufficient number of bills necessary for Ukraine’s progress toward the European Union.

According to “European Truth,” Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin previously linked the expected delay in opening the final negotiation clusters regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU to the reform process. According to him, the goal of the Irish presidency is to open all negotiation clusters with Ukraine by the end of the year, but the opening of clusters 4 and 5 will be delayed.
