King Salman renames university after Prince Musaid — Asharq Al-Awsat
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman ordered the Saudi Electronic University in Riyadh to be renamed after Prince Musaid bin Abdulrahman. The order was issued following a recommendation by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.
The decision is intended to honor the public service of Prince Musaid, the brother of Saudi Arabia’s founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman. He was born in 1918 at Al-Hukm Palace in Riyadh, studied at a traditional Quranic school, and also studied Islamic sciences and the Arabic language.
The prince’s public service
Musaid bin Abdulrahman held a number of government positions. He was an adviser to King Saud bin Abdulaziz, headed the Board of Grievances in 1954, and served as a state auditor before the establishment of the General Auditing Bureau. In 1957, he became a royal adviser and a member of the government; in 1960, minister of interior; and in 1962, minister of finance and national economy. The prince died in Riyadh on December 9, 1986.

Contribution to the development of education
In 1944, the prince founded Riyadh’s first public library in his palace. Its collection included valuable books and manuscripts that students and visitors could use.
The Saudi Electronic University was established in Riyadh in 2011. Its president, Mohammed bin Yahya Mardhi, said the new name has national and academic significance and aligns with the institution’s mission of developing human potential and expanding access to education. In 2017, the General Auditing Bureau also named the main hall of its new headquarters in Riyadh after Prince Musaid.
