Kospi in Seoul falls 0.38% on losses among chipmakers — Korea Herald

In South Korea, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) fell by 26.3 points, or 0.38%, to 6,811.74 points at 9:15 at the start of trading on Thursday. At the opening, the index was down 0.34%. The market began the session after a three-day period of declines.

Technology company shares

Pressure on the index came mainly from shares of companies linked to chip production. Samsung Electronics shares fell by 0.28%, while SK hynix shares declined by 0.11%. Shares of SK Square, the parent company of SK hynix, lost 2.81%, while Samsung Electro-Mechanics shares dropped by 2.05%.

External market backdrop

As Korea Herald reports, trading on Wall Street ended mixed the previous day. The effect of lower-than-expected inflation data was offset by pressure from high US Treasury yields and rising oil prices.

The Dow Jones index fell by 0.86%, the S&P 500 by 0.25%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose by 0.24%. The South Korean won traded at 1,358.7 won per US dollar, 3 won lower than the closing level of the previous trading session.
