The EU has responded to Russia's threats against foreign diplomats in Kyiv
The European Union has no intention of reducing its support for Ukraine or changing the status of its diplomatic mission in Kyiv due to Russia’s threats of future attacks on the capital. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand. He emphasized that Moscow’s latest attempts to intimidate European countries and force them to reduce aid will not succeed, and that Brussels will continue to increase pressure on the aggressor country.
Currently, the European Union continues to increase its military and financial aid. According to the Council of the EU, defense procurement plans totaling 28.3 billion euros have already been approved under the Ukraine Support Loan program, and the allocation of 6.6 billion euros through the European Peace Fund has been agreed upon. Brussels’ top priority remains strengthening Ukraine’s air defense; in particular, the possibility of transferring missiles from EU countries’ own stockpiles—with those stockpiles subsequently replenished—is being explored.
Despite Russia’s calls for foreigners to leave Kyiv and its statements about its intention to continue strikes on Ukrainian cities, the status of the EU diplomatic mission remains unchanged. EU Ambassador Katarina Maternová and the heads of EU diplomatic missions have already met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss details of defense cooperation, financial support, and joint weapons production.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation—the aggressor state—has once again urged foreign diplomats not to remain in Kyiv, Ukraine, and not to travel to the country. The ministry also stated that Russian troops will continue large-scale strikes on the Ukrainian capital.
Russian attacks on Kyiv’s bridges could force authorities to restrict or completely halt traffic across them for an extended period. According to The New York Times, this poses a risk of serious logistical problems for the capital and all of Ukraine.
