Glasgow rape crisis centre forced to close waiting lists amid funding shortfall
In Scotland’s capital, the Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis centre has been compelled to shut its waiting lists due to a surge in demand for support. During 2024-2025, the number of survivors seeking help has increased by 42%, with nearly 40,000 cases reported, but funding has not kept pace with this rise.
The sharp jump in cases has overwhelmed the organisation’s capacity, preventing it from accepting new clients. This situation highlights the critical shortage of resources available to help vulnerable populations in the region.
The future response will depend on securing additional government or private funding to expand the centre’s services and reopen access to those in need.
