Cuba has accused the U.S. of fabricating data on the threat posed by Russian drones — Reuters
Cuban authorities have stated that the United States is allegedly spreading false information about the “threat of Russian drones” to justify tightening sanctions and potential military action against the country. Reuters reported this on May 18.
Havana claims that such reports are part of an information campaign aimed at exerting political and economic pressure.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez made a statement to that effect. The day before, Axios, citing classified intelligence, reported that Cuba had allegedly purchased more than 300 military drones from Russia and Iran.
The publication also claimed that Havana was allegedly discussing the possibility of attacks on the U.S. base in Guantanamo, U.S. warships, and an airbase in Florida. The Cuban foreign minister called this information a “fraudulent affair” and stated that the country does not seek war.
At the same time, Rodríguez emphasized that Cuba reserves the right to self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter. Reuters notes that the published information could be used by the U.S. as a pretext to increase pressure on Cuba.
