Kushner will meet with the Hamas leader in Egypt

Jared Kushner, Special Envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump, will meet with Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya in Egypt as part of Washington’s latest effort to advance a peace plan for Gaza. The talks are taking place as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken out against the proposed terms.

According to a source speaking to the publication, Khalil al-Hayya, who heads Hamas’s political bureau, is scheduled to meet with Kushner in Egypt on August 16

Hamas representatives have already arrived in the country for talks with Egyptian mediators.

On Sunday, Kushner met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, as well as with Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti and the head of Egyptian intelligence, Hassan Rashad.

At the same time, a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya held talks with Rashad. According to the Egyptian side, Hamas confirmed its readiness to work on implementing the U.S. plan for Gaza.

Following the talks in Egypt, Kushner and representatives of the Peace Council are set to travel to Israel, where they plan to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The U.S. initiative calls for a cessation of hostilities, the disarmament of Hamas, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and the subsequent reconstruction of the enclave under the control of a new Palestinian civilian administration.

At the same time, Israel insists on the complete disarmament of Hamas before withdrawing its troops, while the Palestinian group links the issue of disarmament to Israel’s fulfillment of its obligations to cease attacks and withdraw its troops. It is precisely these differences that are keeping the plan in limbo.

According to Reuters, the meetings in Egypt are part of a broader diplomatic effort by the Trump administration to advance a plan to end the war and ensure compliance with the ceasefire agreements.

CNN reports this, citing sources.

Saudi Arabia may currently be preparing for a large-scale military operation against the Yemeni Houthis, which would involve not only airstrikes and naval operations but also a ground offensive in central Yemen.

For decades, the U.S. has been a leader in the production of air defense systems, but the war in the Middle East has significantly depleted its stockpile of interceptor missiles. This could now become a problem not only for Washington but also for its allies, particularly Ukraine.
