Kuwait has reported casualties following Iran's attacks
Kuwait reported at least 63 injuries and damage to the international airport as a result of strikes that authorities attribute to Iran. According to official statements, vital infrastructure facilities, including the airport terminal, were hit. The incident has already sparked a diplomatic response and new accusations between the parties.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Health stated that at least 63 people were injured as a result of the attacks, and damage to the international airport terminal building was also reported. The country’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that there were fatalities and injuries as a result of the events, calling the incident “Iranian aggression.” “Iranian aggression has led to the death of one person and injuries to others,” the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport, which handles international flights, sustained damage. Despite this, Kuwait Airways reported that it is gradually resuming operations and rerouting flights to another terminal.
The situation in the region remains tense. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, stated that the attacks against Kuwait and Bahrain require a “firm and coordinated response from the Gulf states,” emphasizing that the threat affects the entire region. Meanwhile, the U.S. military reported that some of the missile attacks in the region were intercepted or failed to reach their targets.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry rejected the accusations, claiming that the U.S. had previously attacked Iranian targets, including an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran also claims that Kuwait and Bahrain may bear responsibility for allowing their territories to be used in U.S. military operations.
Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti airport is already trying to resume operations: according to official data, Terminal 1 has resumed full operations after previous damage was repaired. The situation in the region remains unstable, and the exchange of accusations between countries only exacerbates tensions surrounding the conflict. This is reported by Reuters.
Earlier, Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries among personnel and damage to U.S. drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. efforts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and continues to interact with his inner circle, although he does so cautiously and primarily through written messages and intermediaries. Officials in Washington note that his activity has been increasing recently.
