ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack on a U.S. base in Syria
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it had struck the U.S. base at Al-Tanf in Syria in response to the deaths of Iranian military personnel in Iranshahr. The statement claims that the attack was in response to the deaths of Iranian servicemen.
At the same time, it is noted that U.S. forces officially withdrew from the Al-Tanf base back in February 2026, handing it over to the Syrian army.
Syrian authorities have also not reported any strikes on the country’s territory. Thus, the information about the attack currently lacks independent confirmation.
This was reported by the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim, which published a statement from the IRGC.
As a reminder, Iran has asked the Yemeni Houthis to be prepared to block the Bab el-Mandeb Strait if the U.S. strikes Iranian energy infrastructure. If this scenario were to unfold, one of the world’s most critical maritime routes—leading to the Suez Canal—could be threatened.
Iran has declared its readiness to destroy all infrastructure in the Middle East in the event of U.S. attacks.
