Lara Trump says war with Iran could cost Trump the midterm elections — The Hill

In the United States, Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump and former co-chair of the Republican National Committee, said that a war with Iran could hurt him in the midterm elections. At the same time, she said that Republicans losing both chambers of Congress would be a justified price for preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Lara Trump said this in an interview with British journalist Harry Cole for his YouTube show. As The Hill reports, she suggested that Iran is delaying any agreement until the U.S. midterm elections in order to weaken Donald Trump's position.

Position on the elections

Lara Trump also said that the president is unhappy with how events surrounding Iran are developing and would like them to move faster. In her view, Americans may feel geographically distant from Iran, so White House representatives and other Republicans should explain in greater detail what, in their opinion, is at stake.

Cole said that, in his view, the administration has not presented Americans with a full justification for the war amid rising gasoline prices. Lara Trump replied that Iran acquiring nuclear weapons would be dangerous regardless of who controlled the House of Representatives or the Senate.

Iran's statements and the course of the conflict

Her remarks contradict a statement by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who told journalists on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly last week that Tehran does not want the conflict to continue until the U.S. midterm elections. He was responding to an earlier statement by Donald Trump that the Iranian authorities were allegedly waiting for the end of voting in the United States to settle the conflict.

According to the outlet, on Monday the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran reached the seven-month mark. After the first strikes in February, Iran blocked the strait through which approximately 20% of the world's oil had previously been exported. Some Republican lawmakers called for the conflict to end sooner so that fuel prices could fall.
