Lavrov accused Secretary of State Rubio of telling a crude lie about the Anchorage summit
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov publicly accused U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio of distorting the facts regarding the outcome of the talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
The Russian official called Washington’s statements about the lack of specific agreements on ending the war in Ukraine “not very subtle.”
Official Moscow insists that the parties reached an agreement based on previous U.S. proposals.
The Russian minister decided to clarify in detail the situation regarding the U.S. role in resolving the war launched by Russia against Ukraine following Rubio’s statements.
According to the occupiers, the White House sent its special representative to Russia with a specific plan on the eve of the leaders’ meeting.
In this context, he claims that ahead of the summit in Anchorage, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff brought a proposal from President Trump to Moscow regarding the resolution of the war.
According to Lavrov, Putin promised to respond to this proposal during the meeting in Alaska. The Russian side is attempting to demonstrate that the initiative for compromise came specifically from the U.S. administration.
However, the Kremlin is not currently disclosing the details of this confidential document, focusing only on the very fact of its existence.
The head of the aggressor country’s foreign ministry described his own version of the events that took place during the closed-door meeting.
The Russian delegation is trying to convince the international community that U.S. officials personally confirmed all points of the peace plan.
However, Rubio’s statements completely refute the existence of any signed or agreed-upon legal documents.
“Back in Anchorage… Putin, looking at Witkoff, who was also present, began listing the American proposals point by point. After each point, in the presence of Trump and Secretary of State Rubio, he asked Witkoff whether he had correctly identified the ideas he had brought to Moscow ahead of the Anchorage meeting. To each of his questions, Witkoff answered in the affirmative,” says Lavrov.
