Only 10% of Germans are satisfied with Chancellor Merz's performance — Interia

In Germany, only 10% of respondents said they were satisfied with the performance of Chancellor Friedrich Merz. This is the lowest figure among all heads of government assessed in the Deutschlandtrend survey over nearly 30 years, Interia reports.

At the beginning of September, 13% of those surveyed rated Merz's work positively. The new result is also the lowest of his entire time in office as chancellor.

Party ratings

If Bundestag elections had been held at the turn of September and October, the CDU/CSU bloc could have counted on 20% of the vote. This is one percentage point less than at the beginning of September.

The far-right Alternative for Germany had the highest support in the survey, with 27%. Its result has not changed over the month. The Greens would receive 16%, the Social Democratic Party of Germany 13%, and the Left 11%. The Free Democratic Party, with 4%, would not clear the five-percent electoral threshold.

Ratings of government members

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius of the SPD received significantly higher ratings than the chancellor: 50% of survey participants were satisfied or very satisfied with his work. The work of Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul was rated positively by 34% of respondents, while Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt was rated positively by 27%.

About 20% of respondents were satisfied with the work of Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, while approximately every sixth respondent was satisfied with Labor Minister Bärbel Bas. Both represent the SPD.

Survey data

The survey was conducted at the end of September by the Infratest dimap institute. The study was carried out by telephone and online using a representative sample of 1,303 eligible voters.
