Lithuania is building a new line of defense along its border with Russia and Belarus
The Lithuanian government has approved amendments to the plan for the construction of defensive engineering structures along the border with Belarus and the Kaliningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation, which provide for the creation of a new defensive zone. According to the decision, a 20-meter-wide zone of mobility-restricting measures will be established along the border, extending from the patrol road into the country’s territory, and in certain operational areas of the armed forces, the zone will be 150 meters wide.
Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas announced the approval of a specific fortification plan. Due to the increase in the number of anti-mobility engineering units from 27 to 50, as well as the need to install backup obstacles on roads and bridges, the deadline for completing the work has been extended to the end of 2028.

Since the beginning of the year, Lithuanian border guards have discovered 12 underground tunnels near the border with Belarus that migrants used to try to enter the country. The tunnels on Lithuanian territory were up to 25 meters long, according to Deutsche Welle, citing the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.
