White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt will step down at the end of the month. U.S. President Donald Trump announced this on Tuesday on the social media platform Truth Social.
According to Trump, Levitt decided to step down to spend more time with her children and family. The president stated that he understands and respects this decision. He also noted that after her resignation, Levitt will remain one of his leading external advisors and an influential voice in the Republican Party.
Levitt is 28 years old. She assumed the position of White House press secretary in January 2025, at the start of Trump’s second presidential term. At the time, she was 27 years old and became the youngest person in history to hold that position.

Levitt recently returned from maternity leave following the birth of her second child—a daughter born in May. She also has a two-year-old son. In a post on social media platform X, Levitt called her role as White House press secretary an honor and the adventure of a lifetime. She explained her decision by citing the challenges of balancing motherhood with the demands of working at the White House.
Prior to her appointment as press secretary, Levitt worked in the White House press office during Trump’s first term under then-spokesperson Kaylee McInneny. After Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential election, she worked in the office of Congresswoman Alice Stefaniak. In 2022, Levitt ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives; she later served as spokesperson for the pro-Trump political action committee MAGA Inc. and joined his 2024 presidential campaign.
