Ukrainian women in Spain are being asked to show their Reserve+
Ukrainians applying for temporary protection in Spain are reporting new requirements from local authorities. Specifically, during the application process, they may be asked to provide confirmation of their military registration status, as well as documents proving they crossed the Ukrainian border.
A post has appeared in a Facebook group where Ukrainian refugees communicate, regarding possible changes in the process of applying for temporary protection in Spain.
The author of the post claims that while applying for asylum, a woman was asked to provide proof of “Reserve+” status, as well as a stamp confirming she crossed the border from the Ukrainian side. The author notes that such a stamp was not previously required.
The post also states that similar requirements may allegedly apply not only to Spain. However, the post does not provide specific confirmation regarding other countries.
What the Embassy Said
In response to numerous inquiries from Ukrainians, the Ukrainian Embassy in Spain published a clarification regarding the situation.
The diplomatic mission drew attention to EU Council Implementing Decision 2026/1912 of July 30, 2026, published on August 4. This decision extends the temporary protection regime for persons displaced from Ukraine until March 4, 2028.
At the same time, the embassy noted that, in accordance with Article 2 of this decision, starting July 31, 2026, temporary protection will be granted only to individuals who meet the requirements for military conscription in Ukraine and can provide the relevant supporting documents.
However, according to the embassy, this requirement does not apply to people who have continuously held and maintain temporary protection status in a specific EU member state until July 30, 2026.
To obtain clear guidance on the practical application of the EU decision, the embassy has sent an official request to the Spanish authorities.
The diplomatic mission emphasized that once an official response is received, the relevant information will be published on the embassy’s official channels.
Thus, at this time, the embassy confirms that it has received inquiries from Ukrainians regarding the new requirements; however, there are still no final clarifications from the Spanish side regarding the procedure for their implementation.
