Lithuania is calling for the abolition of daylight saving time in the EU

Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Taminskas has called on his colleagues from the Baltic states to coordinate efforts to abolish daylight saving time in the European Union.

The initiative calls for the gradual implementation of a decision to abolish the switch to daylight saving time.

This was reported by LRT.

According to him, the time has come to make decisions that will put an end to the practice of changing the clocks twice a year.

"We cannot be passive observers of a situation that has been a real headache for residents for several decades. That is why I am taking the initiative to end seasonal clock changes and unite the countries of the Baltic region around a common goal. Next year, Lithuania will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union—so this is an opportunity to take concrete steps and end the practice of changing the clocks," Taminskas stated.

He plans to discuss this issue during upcoming meetings with ministers from other European Union member states.

The European Commission has launched a study to assess the impact of daylight saving time; its organizers have presented possible scenarios to member states, and the results are expected this summer.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania is participating in discussions on this issue within the Council of the European Union.

Lithuania is asking Greece to extradite a suspect linked to Russia who is accused of planning political assassinations.

Additionally, Poland has again scrambled fighter jets due to a Russian aircraft.

Lithuania has lodged a protest with Belarus following a new incident involving weather balloons.
