Lukashenko is ready to visit Ukraine

Lukashenko is ready to visit Ukraine

Alexander Lukashenko stated that he is allegedly ready to visit Ukraine and discuss relations with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In Kyiv, the response to these statements was as restrained and firm as possible, with officials highlighting Belarus’s role in the war. Officials at the Presidential Administration made it clear that Lukashenko’s words carry no weight without concrete actions, according to Belarusian media reports.

Alexander Lukashenko has once again publicly declared his alleged openness to talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and even expressed a willingness to travel to Ukraine for negotiations; however, Kyiv has met such statements with no illusions and a noticeable coldness, effectively making it clear that political signals from Minsk have long since lost credibility.

Commenting on Zelenskyy’s statements about possible threats from Russia and the potential involvement of Belarus in the war, the Belarusian politician assured that Minsk does not plan to participate in hostilities unless there is direct aggression against the country, stating: “We do not intend to get dragged into the war in Ukraine,” and adding that in the event of an attack, Belarus would act in concert with Russia.

Separately, Lukashenko emphasized that he is allegedly ready to meet with Zelenskyy “anywhere” to discuss both current issues and the prospects for relations, expressing surprise that, in his words, dialogue with Western countries is possible but not with Ukraine; however, these statements were immediately cast into doubt by the Ukrainian side.

In response, Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Dmytro Lytvyn stated that Lukashenko’s words have held no real weight since 2022, when Belarus effectively became a springboard for Russian aggression against Ukraine, emphasizing: “We are monitoring his actions,” and made it clear that Kyiv will judge Minsk not by words, but by actual steps.

The Office of the President also noted that on that day, Zelenskyy was in Slavutych near the Belarusian border, where he spoke with local communities about security issues—a fact that only underscores the context of tense relations between the countries and the lack of room for political illusions in the current situation.
