Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, stated that no buildup of Russian troops on Belarusian territory has been observed at this time. At the same time, he noted that Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, could at any moment allow Russia to deploy troops to pre-prepared bases.
This was stated on television by State Border Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko.
“We shouldn’t react to such statements from Belarus (regarding hundreds of incursions by Ukrainian drones into Belarus per week – ed.) when they accuse Ukraine of something, but we must be prepared for any developments, because they may use all of this in the future precisely to justify further aggression. ... We must maintain strong defensive positions along the entire length of the border with Belarus. This applies to the Volyn region, the Chernihiv region, and other regions bordering this country,” Demchenko stated.
Responding to a question about whether there are signs that enemy forces are already massing on Belarusian territory, he noted that this is not being observed in the immediate vicinity of the border. At the same time, Russia could deploy its troops at any moment, and Belarus would provide its territory and infrastructure for this purpose.
“As of now, based on the technical surveillance equipment we use, we do not see any forces having already accumulated in the immediate vicinity of our border,” Demchenko noted.
As reported by the media, the Belarusian Security Council accused Ukraine of allegedly regular attempts by combat drones to strike border infrastructure. A statement by Belarusian Security Council Secretary Alexander Volfovich cited over a hundred alleged incursions by Ukrainian drones into Belarus in a single week.
