U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his intention to attend one of the NBA Finals games at Madison Square Garden in New York.
According to media reports, Trump is expected to be the guest of honor of New York Knicks owner James Dolan, with whom he has a long-standing friendship.
Initially, the president was scheduled to attend Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, but the New York Knicks ended the series early by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0.
During a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump expressed his admiration for the team’s performance, stating:
“What a team! They’re winning all their games. They really have some great players. I think I’ll go to one of the games. A lot of people have invited me, including Jim Dolan. It’s great to see. The Knicks have really struggled for years, and now things are going very well for them.”
If he attends the Finals, Trump could become the first sitting U.S. president to personally attend an NBA Finals game. He previously attended the Super Bowl, becoming the first sitting president to do so while in office.
Due to heightened security measures, the president is not expected to sit in the “celebrity front row,” where famous actors and public figures are usually present.
As a reminder, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the NBA Board of Governors voted to begin the process of expanding the league. The organization authorized the acceptance of applications to create two new franchises in Seattle and Las Vegas.
