Mátyás explained the Hungarian opposition's plans to oust Orbán's allies

Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, has stated that if his party wins the parliamentary elections on April 12, he plans to remove key allies of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán from power, including the president and the heads of the judiciary.

He made these remarks during a speech at a campaign rally, according to Bloomberg.

During the campaign rally, Magyar called on voters to secure him a two-thirds constitutional majority, which would allow him to amend the Basic Law and complete the “regime change” after 16 years of Orbán’s rule.

The opposition politician sharply criticized the current government, calling it a “mafia.” According to him, in the event of a victory, the heads of the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, the State Audit Office, the Antimonopoly Agency, and the Prosecutor General will be removed.

He stated that these officials “failed to fulfill their constitutional duties and instead prioritized their political loyalty to Orbán.”

“We will restore the rule of law and democratic pluralism,” Madyar emphasized.

According to him, securing two-thirds of the seats in parliament will enable the “Tisa” party to pass laws without opposition support and amend the constitution, which will allow for a “complete break with the Orbán era.”

Mátyás also commented on possible contacts between Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and the Russian side. He stated that such actions could be regarded as “treason” against Hungary and the EU and would entail severe consequences.

“Viktor Orbán does not represent the interests of Hungary, the interests of the European Union, or the interests of NATO, but rather the interests of a third country,” the opposition leader stated.

As a reminder, large-scale rallies took place in Budapest on March 15, featuring Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his main opponent, Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, marking a key stage in the campaign ahead of the April 12 parliamentary elections.

Earlier, Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar stated that Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party, together with Russian political strategists, is preparing a large-scale campaign to discredit opponents ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, 2026.

The Russian Federation has launched a large-scale disinformation campaign in Hungary aimed at strengthening the position of incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of the April 12 elections.
