Mátyás announced a plan to remove the Hungarian president

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced planned measures that, in his view, could help remove President Tamás Szujok from office.

Mátyás’ statement was reported by Telex.

The Hungarian prime minister made the announcement at a press conference on Monday. Prior to that, he and the justice minister had met with Szujok.

“Tamás Szujok has let the Republic of Hungary down... It is in Hungary’s interest for this institution to restore its authority, which has been undermined by silence and inaction in recent years,” he said.

According to Magyar, during the meeting with Szujok, he said that if Szujok did not resign voluntarily, he would inform representatives of the Tisza Party of his decision, and “we will immediately begin the necessary procedures.”

“According to the Fundamental Law, there are several options for his (the president’s—Ed.) removal. We will make the necessary amendments to the Fundamental Law; we will not resort to legislation tailored to a specific individual, but will restore... the Hungarian rule of law and Hungarian democracy,” the Hungarian prime minister stated.

Mátyás added that the impeachment procedure would not be used.

“This process will take about a month; we will try to pass the necessary legislation as quickly as possible, and yes, the removal of every puppet will be on the agenda,” he noted.

Prior to this, the Hungarian president refused to resign following a demand from Prime Minister Magyar.
