Mahama announces reforms and anti-corruption efforts in Ghana — MyJoyOnline
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama said at the Accra Reset event in New York, United States, that his administration is reforming the public administration system to strengthen government accountability, counter corruption and use public funds more effectively. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.
Public finance reform
According to Mahama, the government is reviewing public-sector operating mechanisms and financial arrangements to increase transparency and direct public funds toward specified goals. He described reforming the governance system as one of the authorities’ priorities, particularly in the areas of accountability, public finances and the management of national resources.
The president also said that the government seeks to make the use of resources more effective than before. The Accra Reset event took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and was dedicated to issues of global development, governance and financing.

Health insurance financing
Mahama called the removal of the funding cap for Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme one of his administration’s first steps after taking office. According to him, the previous government imposed caps on all statutory funds, which, in his view, reduced the amount of resources available to this program and other institutions.
The president claims that funds exceeding the specified share of the state budget were transferred to the Consolidated Fund. He also said that these resources were mostly used for programs intended to gain political support and improve the authorities’ electoral standing.
