EOCO says two people allegedly helped MP avoid arrest — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) said it had identified two people who, according to its information, intervened during an attempt to arrest Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah and allegedly helped him avoid detention. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
People identified through video
According to MyJoyOnline, EOCO identified the two people through video footage of the incident. The agency said it was assessing their actions and that legally prescribed steps could be taken afterward.
EOCO also said that the attempted arrest was part of efforts to ensure Awuah’s appearance as part of an active investigation. According to the agency, the MP was invited twice in February 2026 to assist the investigation, but those invitations were not complied with.

Arrest attempt was not completed
EOCO then, according to its own statement, took measures to ensure the MP’s appearance in accordance with the law. However, the arrest was not completed because the situation escalated and agency officers assessed that further action could threaten public safety.
The Office said the investigation was ongoing. EOCO plans to review the circumstances of the incident and the available video materials to determine further steps.
