Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa accuses Israel of hundreds of attacks — The National

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, United States, said that Israel had carried out hundreds of strikes and invaded Syrian territory. According to The National, the Syrian leader said these actions are undermining the country’s recovery and threatening regional peace and security.

Claims of strikes and incursions

Al-Sharaa said that Israel had carried out 500 airstrikes, more than 1,200 incursions and 300 detentions. He called on Israeli forces to withdraw to the lines as of December 8, 2024, and reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to the 1974 disengagement agreement with Israel.

Israeli forces entered the UN-patrolled buffer zone after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in Damascus in December 2024. Israel described the move as a temporary measure to protect its border. Since then, the Israeli army has struck Syrian military infrastructure and taken up new positions deeper inside the country. Syrian authorities and the UN have said that the troop deployment violates Syria’s sovereignty and the 1974 agreement.

According to him, sanctions were lifted, the country resumed production, and the agricultural sector increased output.

The Syrian president claims that more than 3.5 million refugees and internally displaced people have returned to the country. He announced the “Syria Without Refugee Camps” initiative and also reported the rebuilding of schools and universities. Al-Sharaa noted that Damascus maintains contacts with more than 100 countries and that over 60 diplomatic missions operate in the Syrian capital.
