Macron says alternative routes to Strait of Hormuz are needed
French President Emmanuel Macron said in Paris that alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz need to be developed to ensure energy supplies. He made the statement during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, Anadolu Agency reports.

In a post on social media platform X on Monday, Macron noted that ensuring energy supplies requires working on de-escalation and developing alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this will help reduce pressure on fuel prices.
The French president also said that working for stability in the region is in the interests of the French people. He linked the development of defense and security cooperation with partners to the continued fight against terrorism and added that diplomacy must protect the purchasing power and security of French citizens.

Visit of the Iraqi delegation
Ali Al-Zaidi began an official visit to France and Germany on Sunday, leading a high-level government delegation. The Iraqi government said the talks would cover economic, investment, trade, energy, industrial and technological cooperation, as well as political and security issues.
According to the Iraqi government, the trip is intended to turn existing agreements into practical partnerships and attract additional European investment to Iraq. Macron said that the choice of France as the first country on the Iraqi prime minister's European tour demonstrates the possibility of playing a “balancing role.”
