Fighting in Yemen disrupts education for more than 137,000 children — UNICEF
In Yemen, more than 137,000 school-age children have faced significant disruptions to their education due to the escalation of fighting, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported.
Temporary learning spaces
As Anadolu Agency reports, UNICEF response teams are setting up 20 child-friendly spaces as well as temporary classrooms. The organization is providing protection services to affected children.
UNICEF stressed that children must not lose their future because of the conflict.

Assistance for displaced people
UNICEF said on Friday that the resumption of fighting had forced families to leave their homes in the western part of Taiz province and areas along Yemen’s western coast.
UNICEF, together with the UN Population Fund and the World Food Programme, is providing emergency assistance to more than 14,000 people who were recently displaced.
The confrontation between the forces of Yemen’s internationally recognized government and the Houthis has escalated since the beginning of July after several years of relative calm. The war in the country has continued since 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces. In 2015, an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in support of the internationally recognized government.
