Elon Musk's mother has been embroiled in a scandal over her expression of gratitude to a Russian publisher

Elon Musk’s mother, model and nutritionist May Musk, has come under a wave of criticism after posting a message in which she thanked a Russian publisher for the updated edition of her book.

In her post, Maye Musk stated that she was very pleased that her Russian publisher had released an updated version of the book. She wrote, “Thank you, BOMBORA Publishing,” noting that Russia was the first country to publish her book on May 25, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Musk, at the time she didn’t even know that translation and printing processes were underway in other countries, so the Russian edition came as a “huge and wonderful surprise” to her. She also shared photos used in the book, including one from the cover of *Vogue Russia*, and mentioned a photo shoot she did in New York during the quarantine.

The post sparked outrage among many social media users, who accused Maye Musk of publicly supporting her collaboration with a Russian publisher amid Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Her use of the Russian language in her thank-you note to the publisher caused particular outrage.
