Lula to warn Trump against interfering in Brazil’s elections — Anadolu Agency
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that during the UN General Assembly in New York, he will personally warn US President Donald Trump against interfering in Brazil’s presidential elections scheduled for October. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
Statement at a rally
At an election rally in Ceilândia, Lula da Silva said he would travel to the UN meeting on Sunday and address Trump. “Do not interfere in Brazil’s elections. Brazil does not want to be anyone’s colony. Brazil wants to be sovereign, governed by Brazilians, and build its future with the sweat and blood of Brazilians,” he said.
Lula da Silva also criticized his opponent, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who has close ties to the White House. According to the president, the country does not tolerate politicians who display the national flag during the day and humiliate themselves before the US and the American flag at night.

Possible meeting in New York
Next Tuesday, Lula da Silva is set to deliver the opening speech at the UN General Assembly, with Trump scheduled to speak immediately after him. No formal bilateral meeting between the presidents is currently planned. However, Brazil’s Foreign Ministry Secretary for Multilateral Political Affairs Carlos Bicalho Cozendey said they are likely to cross paths in New York.
Tensions in relations between Brazil and the US have intensified in recent months due to trade disputes, tariff pressure, and security policy. This comes amid Trump’s political support for former President Jair Bolsonaro and his eldest son Flávio. An AtlasIntel/Bloomberg poll released on September 18 showed a statistical tie between Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro ahead of a possible runoff on October 25. If no candidate receives more than 50% of valid votes in the first round on October 4, the top two candidates will advance to the runoff.
