Mauritius backs Sahara autonomy under Morocco’s sovereignty — MyJoyOnline

Mauritius has revised its position on Sahara and considers autonomy under Morocco’s sovereignty to be the most realistic, fair and sustainable option for resolving the regional dispute. This was stated in New York, United States, by Mauritius’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Dhananjay Ramful.

As MyJoyOnline reports, Ramful made the statement after talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Mauritius revises its position

According to Ramful, the Mauritian government recently reviewed its approach to the Sahara issue at a Cabinet meeting. This happened after the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2797.

The head of Mauritian diplomacy noted that his country considers this resolution to be based on a pragmatic approach. He also described Sahara autonomy under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco as the most credible solution for settling the dispute.
