Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks directed at Pope Leo XIV regarding his stance on the war in Iran are unacceptable.
This was reported by ANSA.
“I thought the message of my statement this morning was clear, but I will repeat it even more clearly. I consider President Trump’s words about the Holy Father unacceptable,” Meloni said.
She emphasized that the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, and for him, “it is entirely right and normal to call for peace and condemn any form of war.”
According to Sky News, Trump said on Monday that he would not apologize to the pontiff for his criticism.
“There’s nothing to apologize for; he (the Pope – ed.) is wrong; he didn’t like what we’re doing regarding Iran, but Iran wants to be a nuclear power so they can destroy the world. That won’t happen,” Trump said.
