Merz also decided to bypass Poland during his visit to Ukraine

German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz is preparing for his official visit to Ukraine. The German chancellor announced this during a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ankara.

At the start of the talks, which took place before the official summit began, the leaders spoke briefly in the presence of journalists. Merz asked Zelenskyy about his current travel itinerary, given that the Ukrainian side had recently changed its usual travel arrangements and stopped using the Polish airport “Jasionka” in Rzeszów as its main hub.

The head of state confirmed that this time he had once again flown via Moldova. The German chancellor noted that he had chosen a similar route for his upcoming trip to Ukraine, during which he intends to familiarize himself in detail with the situation in the Odesa region.

Prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian delegation departed for the G7 summit in France from the airport in Chisinau, rather than from Rzeszów, Poland.

Poland is demanding that Germany pay 10,000 zlotys per year for each victim of Nazism.
