Minister Fidan confirms support for Libya’s unity — Anadolu Agency

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan took part in the meeting “International Support for Peace, Unity and Prosperity in Libya” in New York, United States, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The Turkish minister said that Türkiye would continue to actively contribute to efforts to strengthen Libya’s stability and security, Anadolu Agency reports.

Participants discussed the political process

Representatives of Germany, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia also took part in the meeting. The participants discussed the UN-led political process in Libya, as well as issues of economic prosperity and security.

Support for a unified government

Fidan recalled his visit to Libya on August 11–12 and meetings in Tripoli and Benghazi. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for efforts to establish a unified government under the “One Libya” policy.

The minister called on international partners to engage in dialogue with all Libyan parties and stakeholders without discrimination. He also stressed that the political process must be led and owned by Libyans themselves.

According to Fidan, Türkiye continues to provide support for unifying and strengthening Libya’s economic and security institutions. He added that the country is ready to play an important role in development and security areas where Libya needs assistance.
