Ghana’s Central Regional Minister calls for calm after New Winneba attack

Ghana’s Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, called on residents of New Winneba and neighboring communities to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands following a violent attack. According to MyJoyOnline, three people were killed in the incident, while about 20 others sustained serious injuries.

Visit to the injured

The official visited the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital to check on the injured and assess the security situation in the area. He said authorities had not yet established which group was responsible for the violence.

Eduamoah appealed to all groups and individuals affected by the incident to allow the police to complete their investigation. According to him, the parties’ grievances must be addressed, and authorities seek to ensure peaceful coexistence in the community.

Security reinforcement

The minister, who also heads the Regional Security Council, announced the deployment of additional police officers from the national police headquarters and two armored vehicles to the area. According to him, this is intended to strengthen security and prevent further violence.

The minister said that 12 injured people had already been discharged from hospital, while eight remained there for further medical examinations. He expressed condolences to the families of those killed and assured that authorities would take measures to restore and maintain calm.

The violence in New Winneba is believed to be linked to a land dispute. Police have detained six suspects in connection with the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
