The Shenzhen and Valparaíso Customs Authorities Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

The Shenzhen Customs Office in China has signed its first memorandum of cooperation between sister-city customs offices with the Valparaíso Customs Office in Chile. The document was signed as part of China’s 2026 APEC chairmanship, according to ECNS.

The agreement expands the China-Chile partnership in the field of “smart customs.” The parties agreed to exchange information and coordinate enforcement activities.

The cooperation will cover mutual recognition of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status, improving the efficiency of customs clearance, corporate creditworthiness, combating smuggling, and protecting intellectual property rights.

Pan Chuxiong, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Customs, stated that Shenzhen maintains close trade and economic ties with Chile. Three direct maritime routes operate weekly between Shenzhen and Chile’s major ports. In the first seven months of 2026, trade volume between the Port of Shenzhen and Chile reached 21.96 billion yuan, or approximately 3.06 billion U.S. dollars.

According to Mr. Chu Xiong, more than 40% of Chilean cherries enter China via Shenzhen. He noted that cooperation with the Valparaíso customs office should help streamline cross-border trade and create new opportunities for bilateral trade in high-quality goods.
