In Accra, Ghana, MobileMoney Fintech LTD, together with UMB Bank, completed the third and final financial literacy and business capacity-building training for members of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association. The event took place at the University of Ghana and concluded a series of three training sessions, with the two previous ones held in Kumasi and Takoradi, MyJoyOnline reports.

Training for small businesses

Charles Osei Owusu, Senior Manager for Business Development at MobileMoney Fintech LTD, said the programme was aimed at representatives of the informal sector, who play a significant role in Ghana's economy but often lack access to structured business support.

According to him, the series had previously trained members of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association and women working in markets. During the current session, participants were taught about customer service, financial literacy and digital tools for developing their own businesses.

Financial services and solar systems

MobileMoney Fintech LTD provided customer service training, while UMB Bank was responsible for financial literacy. UMB's Head of Corporate Communications, Edem Knight-Tay, said the bank advises entrepreneurs on opening and using accounts, saving money and developing their businesses.

She also reported on UMB's loan product for installing solar systems, designed in particular for the needs of the beauty industry amid electricity supply problems. Under the product's terms, eligible applicants can obtain financing within 48 hours, while the bank's technical partner supplies and installs the solar system. According to the UMB representative, such systems can reduce customers' electricity costs by about 90%.
