Following a request from Kyiv, Moldova has cut the transit tariff for Ukrainian cargo in half
Moldova has granted Ukraine a 50% discount on rail freight transit, which will be in effect from August 10 through the end of 2026.
This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi following a conversation with Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan. The preferential terms are intended to facilitate the work of Ukrainian exporters and create an additional route for transporting goods amid Russia’s acts of aggression in the Black Sea.
In addition, starting August 17, the countries will change the route of the Kyiv–Chisinau passenger train. This decision will allow Ukrainians to reach Chisinau International Airport much faster and more conveniently.
Koretskyi reported this in a Telegram post.
Ukraine is considering the possibility of transporting grain by rail through Moldova to the Romanian port of Constanța as a safer alternative to maritime exports. Kyiv has already appealed to Chișinău to establish a reduced tariff for such shipments.
As a reminder, grain exports from Ukraine could fall by more than half.
