In Ghana, businessman Seidu Agongo to distribute 10,000 sewing machines — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo plans to distribute 10,000 sewing machines free of charge to women and socially vulnerable young people. As MyJoyOnline reports, the nationwide program will be implemented in partnership with the Ghana National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).

Support for work in the sewing industry

The program is intended to support people seeking to start or expand activities in clothing sewing, tailoring and other segments of the sewing industry. According to the initiators' plan, it is expected to help participants obtain the tools needed for work, develop entrepreneurship and improve living conditions.

Agongo said he conceived the project after traveling around the country, during which he saw the difficult living conditions of low-income families and vulnerable people. According to him, many young people and women have the potential and desire to change their situation, but need support and the necessary resources.

Among the expected recipients of the assistance are young people who did not complete school, widows, orphans and other socially vulnerable people. The businessman also stressed that the initiative is not linked to political forces. According to his statement, the rules for distributing the machines are intended to ensure transparency, fairness and equal access for candidates in different parts of the country.

Previous charitable projects

In July 2026, Agongo provided food, clothing and other humanitarian aid items worth 1.4 million Ghanaian cedis to people affected by the June 29 floods in several communities in Accra. The outlet also reports on his assistance to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, including the provision of medical equipment and support for infrastructure.

According to MyJoyOnline, Agongo financed the construction and renovation of school buildings, paid for the education of children from low-income families and provided educational materials. He also helped patients pay hospital bills and obtain funds for emergency medical care. The entrepreneur expects that the distribution of the machines will create opportunities for thousands of women and young people to start or expand their own businesses.
