Young men from Texas charged with international criminal scheme

Two men from North Texas, Gavin Rivers Weisenburg (21) and Tanner Christopher Thomas (20), were charged with criminal conspiracy to kill, maim or kidnap people in another country, as well as production of child pornography. According to US prosecutors, they planned to invade the island of Gonaives in Haiti, where they intended to kill all the men and use women and children as sex slaves.

Between 2024 and 2025, Weisenburg and Thomas planned to form an illegal expeditionary group, purchase a sailboat, weapons and ammunition, and recruit homeless people from Washington, D.C., as mercenaries. They carried out numerous preparatory activities, including learning Creole, creating operational plans, and even recruiting new members for their deranged plan. If convicted, these defendants face up to life in prison and, in the child pornography case, at least 15 years.

The case is being investigated by the FBI with the support of the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the Selina police. Despite the charges, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
